Fish, I will always say to play the game your way, as it has no affect on us.

But, that being said, there is a general consensus that there should be about a minimum level of realism. And it's not much, jsut a few options up from stock is all that people want to see. Fuel, Batteries, Air, are probably the minimum people want others to use. Any more and it becomes nit picking. But when people start changing the game so it performs outside of realistic expectations, ie 300 knots submerged, changing sound files so destroyers can't hear you, etc, That's when most people start turning the cold shoulder.
