Didn't he get whacked already, too?
Here's my thoughts: Beck, as silly as he was/is/could be, DID get people thinking about something other than the fact that government just sucks. I know that even though I wouldn't watch/listen to him, my eyes are better opened now than they were even ten years ago, as a consequence of the polarization he brought out. He's way too conservative for my tastes, much as Olbermann was way too liberal for me - I found both to be loudly distracting and divisive, which is not what we need right now... or so I thought then.
But what their boisterousness has accomplished is due to that polarization. It's like that old saying, "Lord, turn my enemies' hearts; but if you can't do that, turn their ankles, that I may know them by their limping." The strident voices on the extremes of both sides made themselves readily apparent via Olbermann and Beck, so it was possible to know them more easily.
So, with the playing field defined, we who aren't at those extremes must now emerge to contend with the voices at loggerheads and maybe start getting people into government who will actually get something done. Yeah, I know it's pie in the sky, but damn, something's gotta give.
