There was an accident similar to this in the 1950's. The Los Angles Times
had a picture of two fireman holding up a man with a 2X4 sticking through his chest and out his back. He had hit some sort of a barricade and a 6 foot 2X4 came through the windshield and stabbed him.

The fireman had to use a chain saw to cut off the board short enough to get him out of the car and into the ambulance.
They cut it till there was about 4 inches out the back and about 6 inches out the front.

A very chilling picture to say the least. I can still see it clearly even today.
Never heard if the guy survived or not but he was clearly alive at this time.
