Default [REL] Depth charge surface effect for TMO

This is my first try at modding something for SH4. I always missed that water surface "disc" effect when DCs exploded that was present in SH3 but didn't show up in SH4. I couldn't find a mod that fixed that so I decided to see if I could make the effect work in SH4 and by (lots of) trial and error and a bit of luck I got something similar to work in SH4. The effect itself was already present, I just had to tweak it so it would show up.


It's just an eye candy mod, and far from perfect, but I think it adds a more realistic touch to the explosions.

This is the default depth charge effect (very plain):

I'm still tweaking a few files and when I'm done I'll post them here. It's a small way to give back to the modding community that helps making the game more enjoyable!

The mod should now work with shells and bullets also:






NOTE: This effect should work with TMO 2.1, 2.2 and 2.5. It won't be compatible with any mod that changes particles.dat or Materials.dat!

There are two folders, JSGME ready:

Splash_effect_DC_bombs_bullets_shells_1.0_for_TMO2 ---> Effects on depth charge, bomb, bullet and shell splashes

Splash_effect_DC_bombs_only_1.0_for_TMO2 ---> Effects on depth charge and bomb splashes only


There are a couple of issues:


- Just like the Sun halo and the explosion effect when planes hit the water surface, you will be able to see this effect through objects:



For what I understand this is an original SH4 bug. If you can live with that, fine, if not I hope some of the more experienced modders can fix this bug!

- Sometimes some of the effects won't show up if you change camera views when an explosion(DC or bombs) is about to happen or if the explosions are far away. But most of the time it works fine.


If you wish you can tweak the effects' bitmap by editing the texture file DC_halo.dds to your liking.
