Around about patrol 5 or patrol 6 Josef Erdmann's (the chief eng.) rank drops from Leutnant zur See to either Oberbootsmann or Bootsmann.
The other effected characters seem to remain as Matroonsen Obergefrieter once they get "demoted" from Kapitan zur See.
I found a file that refers to their ranks as well as various interior sub systems and other crewmembers (ActiveUserPlayerUnits.UPC) and tried to edit it but it had no result in game.
