It seems to me that even in today's politically-correct environment, where everyone gets consideration, legislation, and even
compensation for being in
any way different from the majority, an important group that is a critical part of our culture, even our
humanity, is being ignored.
Worse, they are often derided with belittling slang terms like "southpaw" or "wrong-handers". Is our society above the ignorance of discrimination or is it not? The world doesn't think in terms of black and white, so why is it still acceptable to think in terms of right and left?
Yes, the right-handed majority
claims to acknowledge us; they even "graciously" allowed us a day to celebrate left-handedness, not that they even know what day that is! But what have they
really done for us!? Virtually everything is made for right-handers. Sure, you can buy left-handed equipment, but it costs more!
I, for one, am
tired of being in the silent, shunned minority. I am tired of having a hard time with scissors! I am tired of being the goddamn
pitcher in every baseball game! I am tired of people giving me that quizzical look and saying "You're
left-handed?" and saying left in the same way one might say "ewwww..". More than anything, I am tired of being hit in the face with my own spent shell casings!
This thread is a place for we, the left-handed, to stand up and proudly say that we are indeed in our right minds. It is a place for us to remind the right-handed world that though we favor the left, we still have our rights!
I, gentlemen, am a left-hander, and I am proud to be called one.
