Playoffs are bloated enough already.
Add them as regular season games, but drop only one preseason (you really do do need more than 2 preseason games to help evaluate the new talent trying to make the team). To offset the injury risk, increase the roster size to allow for more subs and less wear and tear on each player. That way both the owners and the union win (but not necessarily the players).
I don't see the point in more playoffs. NBA and NHL both go 80 some games, MLB goes 162, and they still have one game playoffs to get into the playoffs. But yet, you're supposed to be able to statistically tell who's better after 16 games, where they don't even play every team? The more regular season games the better.
