Welcome aboard  , Most SH4 players go with either RFB+RSRDC or TMO+RSRDC. They fix/improve many elements in the game. Very few people stick with vanilla for long. Download JSGME (a mod installer), it will make your life easier, as far as mods are concerned. All these can be found in the downloads section.
