I'm both sad and happy that the in-game naming system doesn't work.
Sad because it seems that I would be able to have every single name appear and disappear on the proper date, which would mean that ships which changed hands, nations, or even sides would be properly represented.
Happy because doing that 12,000+ times would be a nightmare. SH3C's 'tack-it-on-to-the-list' style is so much quicker and easier...
