I'm pretty sure the way it works for SH3 is that removing the interface overlay from the display is actually tied to the
other function of the
Del key on the numberpad (which in many cases is a '
.' which serves as a decimal point for easier numerical data entry).
The NumLock toggles the function of that key between
Del and whatever else it does, and it's the "whatever else" that's tied to the interface on/off command in the game... which gets lost when the NumLock is off and that key functions as
Del instead.
