If you have a water storage tank in the attic, I'm sure you could put some monitors up there for a full 360 degree view from the periscope that you are making. Just find a way of attatching the periscope to your keyboard with some little servos and lengths of plastic this should be possible. So when you go scope up, it actually surfaces through the water in the tank. Maybe when it gets dark you can change all your bulbs to red ones too, also if the weather is bad and you are going to go outside. Place a bucket of water on the door, so when you open the hatch you get a realistic atlantic drenching
But on a serious note, that sounds like it could be quite good if you get it working
