I downloaded the SH3Speach and over a whole month twicked/changed some of the the commands with my Plantronics headset. Works beautifully. Total immersion as I have my 19 " desktop monitor to display the navigation map when I request it and go stand there and do the calculations. I have a a VGA splitter and one goes to an old 14" monitor I bought on ebay for £20. This is mounted on a shelf at eye level. When I want to look at periscope I go to this and view it through an 1.5" aperture. My 50" TV is also connected up to the pc via HDMI and this gives the living room a visual background for atmosphere. When I go to the bridge I stand on a small raised platform and look at the 50" TV. I'm totally free to move around the room as my headset is wireless. All monitors always show the same view but I'm only looking at one monitor at a time so it doesn't matter if the 50" TV is also showing the periscope view because I'm looking at it only 'through' the 14" monitor. Changing views is done by the appropriate command e.g. when I want to work on the periscope I command 'attack scope' and move to the 14" monitor. I have the feeling that the whole flat is the submarine because I can move to the kitchen (galley) if I want and me (the Captain) can make a coffee whilst I can still hear what's going on, as in real life. I'm trying to work on plastic tubing with a bar across and hole through it to act as my periscope. I'm trying to fix a keyboard to it so that when I turn it it presses against the arrow keys and thereby moves the periscope view left/right. Any ideas as to how we can increase such 'physical' realism will be much appreciated. Time to move away from the desk I say!
