In my experience if one part of a mod doesn't work properly, then in all probability there's another part that is also absent or corrupted, which you might not stumble across until you're 5+ patrols into a career and you have to reinstall. As you're new to GWX, I'd recommend reinstalling and checking the F1 menu again. I've had this happen to me before (different mod, different game), and I chose to ignore it as everything else 'appeared' to work normally. However, after a month of playing and building up quite a few hours I was faced with an error that basically brickwalled my progress, forcing me right back to the beginning again.
With SH3 and GWX, you tend to get quite attached to your U-Boat and it's crew, so having to scrap it after a long time and some memorable adventures will be a lot more hassle than sorting it out now while all your crew are still wet behind the ears.
