Not true. There is no reason they couldn't have simulated this. In fact, in SHCE, they did.

It is, to me, the most frustrating aspect of Sh4; things that were correctly (albeit simply) modeled in the first generation sim, were bungled in Sh4.

P.S. Does anybody know if it is the same in Sh3?
