In Edward Beachīs novel "Run Silent Run Deep", the captain of fictional USS Eel (US Fleet Boat in the Pacific), destroy the lifeboats of a japanese destroyer sunk, because in some of the boat is "Bungo Pete", the captain of the destroyer. The Eel ram all the boats and destroy they, with the purpouse of kill the hard captain of the destroyer and avoiding, in this way, the survivor cap return to duty.
I donīt know if a real US skipper makes that, but the war is the hell...
