As a recap, it is not your usual 'depth-charge-hell' wartime story but rather it covers a 'young man's love of the sea, joining the Kriegsmarine (officer Kadet), his daily life adventures and eventually a career as a u-boot (Ing) Officer (U-190) and later as a POW in Canada.
A bonus is the appendix which includes many pictures of the 1XC/40 interior!
