any browser is only as safe as its user.

as long as you take precautions as to the sites you visit and closely guard your information... you should be safe.

one thing you can do is use a gift card or credit card with a super low limit to make online purchases for example.

if someone gets hold of it... big deal. its easy to fight fraudulent charges and its not like they will be able to spend very much.

one thing you DONT want to do is make online purchases with your bank card or a high limit credit card.

fighting that stuff is not likely to earn you a lot of flak from your credit institution - BUT the process can be a long one.

as far as viruses go, be careful about following links, downloading software, and dont visit certain web sites

my dad uses IE9

i have no viruses

he has tons of viruses trojans and worms he found out the other day.
