Now you (theoretically) have the program you want, let's discuss your tactics.

First off, check the date. If you're going out in a type II it's early in the war, perhaps so early that you aren't actually at war with the UK and end up sinking innocent ships weeks before war takes place. I did it.

Second, stay clear of shallow water. If I can't go to 150m after an attack I get worried, the depth and silence are all you have to protect you. Going into shallow coastal waters chasing small merchants and fishing boats is not the way to rack up the tonnage.

Go to your patrol area, hang around for a day until your briefing is fulfilled, then go find the nearest choke point or convoy route and lie in wait there. Submerge several times a day at low speed to listen for ships, spend the rest of the time criss-crossing the lanes at 8-10 knots with your watch officer on the bridge.
