I think what I did this time to see if it would fix the problem is untick all the 'time spent in base' options before launching the game. I was first on randomise, then set it to 23 I believe... now I've unticked all options. As for news mod, it seems that I'm getting the news mod for my first career in my second career... no idea how that might happen. Maybe I forgot to exit game before going into my second career. I'll bet that's what caused the news mod problem.
Re the other issue, I'll see what happens when I finish my current patrol and play with the option some more in Commander. Think I will try setting the number of days to 40 to see if it will work. All I can think is that I may have mistakenly made some sort of change during patrol (when boat was docked for example) which might have caused a problem. But I really have no idea on this one.
