Hee Hee I knew that. Again typing to fast.
Here in Canada its always spelled 'mom' but the saying itself, when said vocal, is attempted to be pronounced 'mum'. Usually a pathetic attempt at a British accent on our behalf.
But thats nothing. I have a good friend from England and we like to try to get him to say the words 'porpoise' or 'tortoise'. Of coarse he never will anymore because the first time he said them, and any time since, has become a bit of humor to us true English speaking Canadians.

We couldnt understand what he was saying.
Same like the word "bear." Like in polar bear. Which we pronounce like "bare" naked. He still likes to pronounce it like 'burr'. Which Rhymes with her. We will get him trained in correct English yet.
So to him a porpoise, a tortoise and a bear are:
"A poy-puss, a toy- tuss and a burr."
