lol I used to be one of them but once I learned the shipping lanes it's all fine esp where convoys are concerned.Although certain time periods are dry, its realistic and fun.

I suggested to Armistead that should do away with lone merchants/tankers in later war, with the exception of small coastal freighters such as Taihosan Maru and Kasagisan Maru or the tanker like Haruna Maru(even small tankers became too important to let go alone) along the coast and on "local runs" Starting around March 1944 should see barely any singles other than small merchants and completely eliminate UNESCORTED singles as of 1 June 1944.Anything else not in a convoy should have some type of escort.

Japanese doctrine changed after suffering severe losses in Feb 1944 to US submarines, just didnt see an important ship(for most part) unescorted after that.A mid sized freighter moving down coast from Tokyo to say Kii Suido would be near the coast and have several small escorts like the Cha-1 subchaser or at the very least a patrol plane assigned as escort.Or one big ship may have a DD or DE with a couple small escorts or alone but point is, they were escorted.Just took easy to rack up tonnage in 44 and 45 from singles, they look very out of place.

I once assigned nearly every single in TMO an escort or two and it made singles not such "easy pickns" my install was fouled up due to mod soup and I lost it.I no longer have the time to do this and have been away can change things in RSRD without fouling it up, was always under the impression you could not do any work with the ME in RSRD.

RSRD esp with sonar and radar patches put out, along with TMO is pretty much perfect, just needs some tweaking.
