Jeez. You explained everything so I can't even say "Where have you been?" I hate that!

Honestly, Mr. A, it's good to see your name again.

Of course not. If you've been lurking in the forums you should know that.

A great many folks still swear by SH3, and GWX isn't the only big supermod. There is a lot more to choose from, and new mods being done every day. There is a mod in the works that lets you walk all the way through a Type II.

Silent Hunter IV- The two main mods I remember are Trigger Maru and Real Fleet Boat? As I never tried them what are the main differences between the two?
RFB attempts to recreate the Pacific war as accurately as they can.

TMO (Trigger Maru Overhauled) makes it a little harder, the purpose being that an exact recreation suffers from foreknowledge - if it's harder than real life then the player will have to act more realistically. Sounds odd, but it really does help.

You should also get RSRD (Run Silent, Run Deep) if you're using RFB. It changes the campaign itself - ship movements and battles - to reflect the real thing.

Is the uboat addon worth it even if uboats in the Indian Ocean are not appealing to me? What does 1.5 add otherwise and where can I get it and the mods?
Operation Monsun is a full-on Atlantic campaign created for 1.5, and a good one it is. It lacks some of the graphic details provided by the big SH3 supermods (LSH3 in particular), but it is a great campaign, and SH4 both looks and plays better than SH3.

Silent hunter V - Gulp. Read some of the stuff here and at UBI. Ouch. So what is the situation now, always complaints at first, what have the devs and modders done to fix things? Is it worth moving on from SHIII??
That's strictly a matter of personal taste. If you want to walk through the entire boat, interact with the crew and have the best graphics imaginable, the it's the one for you; and there are some amazing mods out there right now, and more on the way.

On the other hand, if you want to play in a Type II or a Type IX, or play in 1944, and don't mind a very limited supply of merchant types to shoot at (and in spite of claims that it is much more modable the modders are having a real uphill struggle with that and other problems), then SH3 and SH4 are your only choices.
