In my opinion it is a misconception to believe that some destroyers detect better than others. Their sensors are configured in a single file: Data \ Cfg \ Sim.cfg
Despite this, the detection capabilities are influenced by:
a) their speed. At 25 knots, they are deaf like snakes,
b) the wind speed. For 0 m / sec, you can be detected several miles,
c) the noise made by your sub and your crew,
d) the profile that shows your figure,
e) the drag of your periscope.
The destroyers are then classified poor to elite. This affects their response to aggression.
