Maintain radio silence at all costs, you'll thank me later. You should be able to offset any loss of, and/or possibly gain, renown by sinking some tonnage, preferably tankers. The brass will love you if you sink tankers. The only time I radio anything to HQ is when it's absolutely, positively, necessary. Like spotting a TF when part of your original orders include radioing any contacts, but that's it.
