Here's one of my oldest projects in my current game, need to get back it it.
Anywho, it's a mapping tower, once I find a natural cave or break surface from one of my mines I mark it with torches (for mines I make a torch trail back to base) and this tower allows me to see where's something worth exploring. It's maybe half way finished, just making a glass lobby and then head up for a few more floors.
