While I agree that it was a fantastic movie, one of my favorites, I have to disagree about how it treated the book, or books. That movie was made of alot of little pieces from many of the Aubrey/Maturin books which I thought was bad form if they wanted to do a sequel. Even the title was a mix of the first and 10th books. He was a Captain in the books (and movie) by the time of this main story, not a Master and Commander, Maturin never once wore his famous wigs.. etc etc....
However, the worst affront to the writing was they completely changed the nationality of the protagonist. (In the book they were after an American privateer, not a French one.. I guess they figured a French enemy would sell better in the US market

) When you have a movie that is about 2 warships, and you change the country where one is from, I call that a massive change from the literature.
