I don't see a reason why the family wouldn't have been informed about a medical reason. Just a line that it is to dangerous for the donor for what ever reason. Since nothing like that has been forwarded I doubt that there is a medical reason behind it. I would really love to hear the version of that guy but unfortunately he has chosen not to add ANY information to why he has decided that way.
