Reminds me of a favorite old
Doctor Who episode. The TARDIS lands, and the Fourth Doctor (Tom Baker) steps out. He says something about some-doohickey-or-other being on the fritz, and he must remember to fix it. "I know! I'll tie a knot in my hanky!" He pulls the handkerchief out of his pocket, sees the knot that's already there, and says "Hmm. I wonder what that was for?"
