The type II has three tubes.
I, too, am doing a campaign in a IID. It's been a while since I last used it, however, so I don't remember where I am in the campaign. You really have to choose your targets wisely. I also learned to never attack a tanker with no less than three torpedoes. After using the type II for a while, try one of the other subs. They seem gargantuan.
