The thing is, you can google a word and get pages of results and still not know which ones are going to give you the answers you're looking for. But someone who knows a little something about what you're asking, even if they don't have the exact answer immediately at hand, may be able to do a more specific search and get quicker and more pertinent results. Or they may know exactly where to go to find the most concise answer.

So much information is on the internet - usually the trick is just knowing how and where to find it while not wasting time poring through stuff that seems relevant but turns out not to be on closer examination.

TBH half the time when someone raises a question that I don't already know the answer to, it piques my own curiosity and I'm looking up the info just to satisfy that. And then if I find it - well, why not share? I figure I've been saved a lot of time and effort by other people doing exactly that, so it's only fair to return the favor if I can.
