Hi Anvart,

guess you´re mixing up some facts!

U-805 surrendered on the 12th of May to the USS Otter and USS Varian.
U-805 was escorted by these two destroyers to Portsmouth, New Hampshire. The boat surrendered while on patrol and in US waters, the pictures had been taken on May 18th.

U-858 received the order to surrender on May 4th.
U-858 met USS Carter and USS Muir on May 9th.
On may 14th U-858 reached Cape May, the picture had been taken there.

The boats had been serviced by their original German crews until they had been taken over by the Americans. Because they reached the operational areas submerged, using the "Schnorchel", the boats looked that worn out.
