"Countdown to looking Glass"

Now that is a scary scenario. It would appear the president gave nuke authority and fled Washington knowing what was going to happen in that TV film. Why? My guess is the financial crisis was simply so bad that to the nutjob president. A war was better than peace. It a bit opposite from "Red Storm Rising"

Had there been peace the likelihood would be global economic crisis much worse than the 07 08 version leaving the soviet union free to gobble up more nations. When the leaker man wanted the journalist to leave it was obvious to him nobody wanted to listen. His evidence was ignored and by the time EBS sounded it was too late. Safeguards are in place to prevent such madness in the real world and the former ship commanded was wrong saying nukes are first on the table. Everyone and their mother knows that once nukes are loose there is no going back.

Just imagine in that universe what was going on at the end of the movie. EBS was far more reliable at that point especially when warning was given of its activation. All the stations radios were set and when the Tone sounded (There was only an annoying attention noise no digital modem signals were used with EBS) It was likely only a matter of minutes before Weather radios went off across the country (because of tuneout factor NWS stations only sounded the EBS tone on the weather frequencies in the case of a wide area event like a wide area tornado warning no EAS differentiation sadly) A howling tone that penetrates the night with a cold steel fear that chaos is on the way. Screens across the nation go to black with the text "Emergency Action Notification" flashing in bold.. Adding to the cold terror of the moment. Smaller station without proper EBS links follow rules and drop off the Air leaving people moving the dial to constant stations of nothing but a singular connection to destiny. A frantic knock on the door. People outside are begging to be let in because traffic has halted as people flee their vehicles and shelter is too far away. A gov official has replaced the computer EBS voice and notes of the situation leading to likely nuclear attack in a matter of hours and instructions on what to do in case of attack. The people are inside and furniture is broken up and placed at the windows. Power tools are dragged in from cars and people frantically run about the neighborhood blasting in nails to reinforce the temporary shelters. The phone lines are shut down to attempt to protect equipment from EM damage. 911 offline Emergency EBS blares its terror once more.

Sorry for my bit of fan fiction there. Just wanted to convey how EBS and EAS fiction is terrifying. The kind of terror you get from reading books like World War Z
