Those Peavey's are nice. I had a go on one in my local muso shop.
I know what you mean about the active electronics, there's a world of tone control at your fingertips.
With that in mind, I was soooo close to buying one of
THESE a few years ago. Yamaha TRB1006J 6 string bass...
