I just had the same problem, uninstalling the 2008 redist solved it. Thanks for the hint.
Just installed the game for the first time and it crashed the way you described.

Additionally I have MSVS 2010 installed, so you can be sure that this won't be a problem for the game if that's the case for any of you.
