With IRAI, I had some wonderful hide and seek play, for a while. OK, the reason I was first pinged and find out was that I kept my obs scope too long surfaced. There was this one British destroyer that saw my periscope. I was at the Canal, passing it. When I realize that Destroyer saw me, I ordered dive to 40 meters. No more room to play with, pretty shallow waters...
And the game starts. The Clock was about 10 o'clock. I ordered silent running amd did what ever I could to evade depth charges. It went well and I had evaded enemy about two hours, (in game time), depth charges went way of my position and I felt pretty confident about my escape, maybe we can make this through! Then I heard a second ping. I'm not sure how many soundlayers game can handle, but I was sweating already. I took minor damage from the depth charges, so they went pretty close. After a while, I decided to see what was goind on on the surface, and got to the periscope depth. There were FIVE destroyers hunting me down! I decided to go down again. My evading prosedures cause me no good, more beating, soon I have to blow my ballast, underwater propulsion is gone. No reaction, I can not get my sub to the surface!
After a while of repairing my sub is able to surface, facing 8 destroyers on the surface! I tried to survive. But they got me... Game over.
But after all this one was the most thrilling encounter with the enemy forces I have experienced! Try IRAI by TheDarkWraith.
