I haven't experienced those bugs, but as far as finding (quick) commands, I was lost as well. The NewUIs_TDC_3_4_1_TheDarkWraith mod was one of the first on my drive.
I hate SH4 controls (but those are available as well) but I love his translation to SH3-like controls. Helped me a lot.
