Well why didnt I do that in the first place. Steam, you can go to hell.

Happy to report that proper non steam version works a treat, tested vanilla + with all desired mods activated, no CTD when approaching any port.

Cheers for everyone's help, was very close to chucking in the towel and not bothering with SH4...
