I wish there was a way to meter each individual outlet in the house. That would be one way to bring parasitic electricity usage to people's attention.

The fact that my electricity bill is, say, $200.00 per month does not really mean much, but if I knew that my TVs/Cableboxs/DVRs are using, say, $30.00 even when I don't use it, that will bring things to mind.

What is killing our electricity use is all the stuff that draws electricity even when it is not being used! I know it is a problem in our house.

5 computers
7 monitors
2 printers
1 scanner
Router/switches/hubs out the butt

all powered up for the 10 hours we are all at work. How much electricity am I wasting? Dunno, probably don't really care. How much is this wasted electricity costing me, that I would care about!

And please don't even ask about our stupid "home theater" system $$$$$$$

(actually we do care and we are trying to remember to really power down stuff, we are just not doing very well on it)
