Think I have got round the problem.
I moved every text file from the menu folder and the patch (1.4b) apparently installed. Then I put 2 of them back as the 2 help files were replaced by copies from the patch.
Prelimary tests show that it works.
Now all I have to do is install the mods.
Pity I lost the careers, but they were corrupted.
