If Rabin wasn't killed it wouldn't change anything.
A what you called hardliner wasn't chosen because Rabin was killed.
He was chosen because Arafat who also won Nobel prize put Israel through wave of terror that was unknown here until then.
I believe that Rabin if he wasn't killed would do exactly what the others after him did or even more and for good reason.
