Im currently patrolling an area on the western approaches that appears to have a heavy population of task forces of 4-6 destroyers. Think Bdu has it in for me. Can't hunt for all the destroyer dodging. the one convoy i was tracking was in medium fog, and either i went right past it or visa versa. Not sure where it went, went up and down the projected path of the convoy but no further contact has been made. May have to pass out those escape vests, we could be in for a bumpy ride on this one.

Update: Same patrol, Same area, Same fog: encountered a large steamer, sailing alone. put two fish to her, started lining up a 3rd shot in case she didn't sink, when a destroyer comes out of the fog from the far side of the steamer. jump down the hatch, crash dive, duck, and hide. I counted 8 depth charges exploding 2 were close enough to rock me nearly sideways, severly damaged port electric motor, starboard desiel, with minor damage to aft batteries, and the compressors, not to mention installing a new shower system into the desiel compartment. next pass wasn't as bad, minor damage to the other electric motor, the port desiel, and the repaired compressor. was about 15 minutes till the next round of bumps and bruises, minor damage only.

2 hours later, we come up to periscope depth to find the disabled merchant and the destroyer patrolling some distance off, about 6km. put a last fish into the merchant, sunk on impact, dove and dodged the angery destroyer (again). no charges dropped, well none that i could hear. only pinged once or twice that i could hear. snuck away on the one good electric motor at 1 kt. lost contact 2hrs later, periscope depth to take a peek, nothing. surfaced and continued back towards home.
