I had a similar incident happen a few minutes ago while playing the game. It was hilarious. Since it happened so fast, I tried to get a screenshot by pausing the game with the - numpad button. Instead I pressed the + numpad button and missed my opportunity. I know I could have used the Backspace button but I didn't think of it.

Anywho, here's the story...

I was up near Scapa Flow to the north in that active channel. A C2 appeared. I thought I would get rid of some stern torpedoes, so I fired. I tried to hit the middle of the ship, but hit forward of that. I sailed on. I quickly turned around. By the time I got turned around I couldn't use impact pistols. The angle was too great. So I ordered ahead flank and got behind the ship. I was detected. I planned to use magnetic pistols. I was about 350 meters away when I launched the fish. I guess the ship dived with the waves just enough for my torpedo to hit the rudder and prop. This time I heard a higher pitched, louder clang than normal. My torpedo started going backwards about instantly the same speed it was going forwards! It also jumped out of the water about a Type VII's conning tower height. It dropped back in the water and popped out again. By the time it started heading towards the ship again, my fish was practically returned to me! I was afraid it would sink me instead! The torpedo started heading for the ship again. This time the torpedo detonated under the propellor destroying it. This brought the ship to a hault. I was able to finish the C2 off with my last stern torpedo.

One thing that surprised me was when the torpedo dropped back in the water it made a sound like a depth charge being dropped. I wouldn't think there would be a need for that sound for a torpedo coming from a submarine. This makes me wonder if the devs had the game set up for air dropped torpedoes or ship launched torpedoes.
