Shark don't attack from the deep, but rather from the same height of his pray. So if you are at surface you will always see his "periscope". I'm pretty sure that Croc's can be found in salt water its alligators that are fresh water.
Also anyone that thinks these reptiles are slow have another thing comming. Usually they lay in wait and the wham the attack comes in the blink of an eye from out of nowhere. So in that regard I think Uboats are rather more like a croc.
Of course at the time the average sailor in the Kriegsmarine had no idea what a Crocicile was. Wolves on the other hand were quite familiar.
