Finally got my copy of the "Anatomy of the Ship" book on the VII, and noticed some pretty major differences between the interior layout of the VIIA when compared with later model VIIs. It wasn't really something I'd really thought about before - the lack of saddle tanks on the VIIAs placed many of the fuel oil and fresh water tanks
inside the pressure hull, making an already cramped design ever more confining. I scanned the working deck plan of both the VIIA and VIIB included in the book and noted some of the main differences in the layout of the pressure hull:
