Had my first early war aircraft sighting last night, Late September/early Aug off the west coast of scotland. was putting a stern Eel in a crippled freighter when my watch screamed "Aircraft spotted", and since I had just watched the first part of Das Boot again recently, I screamed "ALARM" as I pressed c

Then after the anson<sp> had dropped it ammo and bombs, I asked my navigator "how much water under the keel" and when he came back with 7 meters, (while I am crash diving), i almost messed my pants. tried to level off but still dinged the bottom. turned out I crashed dived in about 40 meters of water in a VII.

This also was SW of Scapa on the scot coast, and I will make sure to keep sharp eyes as apparently there is early war air coverage in that area.
