Back in the 1890s the British were building the first destroyers. They briefly experimented with having the screws turn inwards, but found that this created instability and the ships tended to wander from their assigned course, requiring constant input from the helmsman. With outward-rotating screws the ship tended to hold its course much better.
So you're absolutely right. With a very few exceptions all multi-screw ships have propellors that rotate outward.
