The "White" postfix is because it's "witbier", which translates into "white beer".
White beer is a turbid, light-yellow type of beer, and ideal to enjoy on a hot day.
You shouldn't just pour it in your glass as that makes it too clear, which influences it's taste. Ideally, you should not be able to see more than let's say 1.5cm (half an inch) through it.
To get it turbid, first pour in about 3/4 of the bottle (preferrably without creating too much foam). Then shake the remaining quarter a bit, and pour it right in the middle of your glass to make it turbid and create the recommended 2 finger widths of foam:
You might also want to try La Trappe Witte Trappist, another superb white beer, IMHO much better than Hoegaarden (and Hoegaarden is already really good), but much harder to find.
