You know... I'm pretty sure I remember reading somewhere that US Fleet Boats had both a "Top-Side" and a "Bottom-Side" hydrophone set and that under the right conditions, they could pick up hydrophone contacts while surfaced.

But, if I'm not mistaken, the U-Boats only had a "Top-Side" hydrophone set which wouldn't give them the same opportunity... But I'm not an expert, so don't quote me on that...
