I can only speak for myself, but what keeps me doing the same type of missions over and over again in both sub and flight sims, is that when I return back home, I imagine the dock/airfield crew watching me return, knowing I've been thru hell and survived. I know it sounds a bit crazy, but that's what keeps me going.
