Dr. Robert Liston was one of those fast surgeons. In his most famous/infamous cases he amputated the patent's leg in 2.5 minutes.
The patient later died which was not unusual in those days, but during the amputation, Dr. Liston accidentally amputated some of the fingers of his assistant, who later also died of his injures. In his speed, Dr. Listion was wildly grabbing instruments. During this same amputation, he accidentally slashed an observer who promptly died of a heart attack.
For that one operation, Dr. Liston accidentally killed three people. The patient, the assistant, and the observer.
I believe that is still a record for people dying from one operation.
And let's not talk about the case where he amputated a patent's leg and his testicles at the same time.
